Less is More- How to Use Visual Content to Improve Engagement

less is more

Nobody likes to go to a website and instantly get hit with verbal diarrhea. A page with an information overload could potentially turn readers away.

Have you ever heard the saying, “A picture is worth 1000 words”? This is how Social Marketer Kim Garst introduced her topic on using visual content to drive massive social media management. This example is a huge factor when creating a social media site to draw attraction to your customers.

Use Eye Catching Images

  • When looking at a page or business, the first thing readers notice, will most likely be the pictures.
  • People will eventually get to the words, but businesses need to focus on what their audience is first drawn to.

Relevant Content

  • Visual content on your site should be relative to your company or what is being explained somewhere else on the page.

  • It is a proven fact that 80% of people will retain images while only 20% retain what they read.

Make It Your Own

  • Don’t be afraid to let your readers know who you are and what type of style you are bringing to the page.

  • People want to communicate and interact with other human beings, not just some brand and logo on a computer or phone screen.

Deciding what kind of content to put on social media is based on what your readers want to see. What do they care about outside of your brand, product or service? What interests them?

Finding what your readers’ enjoy most comes with a bit of experimenting.

There are 5 major types of visual content:
